Graduation
Few days ago marked the end of four years of work. Which is apparently celebrated by dressing up like a bunch of cultists, listening to a long list of names, shaking hands with important people and paying £60 for free champagne! Go figure.
Wearing academic robes made me feel uncomfortably like an overgrown bat. Substantial +int aside, the hem repeatedly caught the heel of my shoe, filling my head with horrible visions of flying across the stage and destroying a VIP's ribcage on impact. After flapping on over to the Royal Albert Hall, it was quite a struggle to get anywhere, since the way was blocked by what appeared to be half the population of China. We eventually squeezed through and sat down in the hall, which was buzzing with excited conversations and camera flashes.
A hush fell across the auditorium as a man with a massive, sparkling silver and gilt mace (seriously, what were the stats on that thing?!) headed a procession of various important members of the college, most of whom were unknown to me. After some speeches, row by row we were led to the stage to have our names called out, walk across the stage, shake hands and head back to our seats.
My visions of horror did not come to pass, and I am proud to say I managed to avoid bashing my face in on the floor in front of a whole crowd. It did, however, turn out I was insufficiently broad in shoulder to support the robes, so I managed to graduate with my robes halfway down my side. Messy? I prefer 'interestingly windswept'...
But overall, great success! Congratulations to the class of 2012!

Inevitable 'well, that failed' post
And so by throwing 100 Tissues into the lake, I revive this blog!
So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened. Turns out I got a 2.1 - not entirely unexpected, but I have now brought grave dishonour to ancient Chinese famiry name. Luckily no-one cares about me when there's a possible-medic sibling to support, so my lack of a First will hopefully slip by unnoticed, like Snake in a cardboard box.
And then there's been a bunch of outings with friends and friends-of-friends, hooray! Drinking, nice food, pleasant conversation and balancing things on people. We went to see a few museums as well! In which there was SCIENCE. And rocks, and dinosaurs. Turns out Utahraptor looks crazy, and that carrot cake can be pretty expensive. Nobody opened doors, got on floors or walked the dinosaur though, regrettably.
Now I am working on some projects! I'm gonna try my hand at clothes-making and maaaybe make myself a wallet of some sort (this may be beyond me. If it is, I'll make myself a medieval money pouch instead, like I used to carry.) Should be fun! And hopefully I'll find time to ramble a bit more here.

Computer Science, drink more coffee
(Same room. Same table, too. Same clothes piles scattered around the floor...)
And so today begins like the others, entirely too late (night owl-ing it) and with a deliciously milky coffee and a Pot Noodle. If I had time, I'd make my entirely-amazing-wonderful-super-awesome-coffee-based-condensed-milk-extravaganza-with-cinnamon-and-chocolate (hah, spell checker blew up on that), but it takes a while.
Exams draw ever nearer, and I haven't revised enough yet. At all, for anything. Weirdly, the panic which I usually experience in this situation hasn't quite set in yet. I am feeling oddly detached. Perhaps this is the calm before the axe falls. Or maybe endless torment by the wiry claw of my own head massager has scrambled my brains. Who knows? I will probably start freaking out after I fail the first one!
Either way, today is the day I try and finish Modal and Temporal Logic (uughhh) and also try and do.. something, with that BMI report. That subject was so much more trouble than it was worth. So I'd better head in!
